Early History
Born in Gaimen City, Matthew is no stranger to fights, confrontations, and shady people. He was a rebellious teenager, caring about no one and citing that no one had a future while living in this city. Matt never dated but did ‘hook up’ with females. During this time, he was very selfish and cocky. In junior high, he played baseball for a short time before switching to American Football in high school, playing Tight End. During his HS years of skipping class, partying, getting into fights, flirting, arguing with his family, and just horsing around, Matt finally grew up after graduation, realizing that he had to do something with his life. Going back and forth for some idea of a job, he had deciding that he had to leave GC to pursue a career and life, and thus, left everything behind to grow more responsible.
Gaimen City Return
After seven years of traveling and studying as a doctor abroad, Matthew returned to GC to finish his internship and sell his parents house for them after they relocated. Matthew was nervous returning due to the raise in crime and quiet panic within the city and a new rising trouble. His decision to come back was based on his parents desire to move, but they couldn’t leave without selling their house. Matthew, after getting news that he matched Gaimen County General for his internship, decided to live there and sell it when he was finished so they could move. His second reasoning was to see Celine Paleste again; his long time crush.
Family
His relationship with his parents was never good in the beginning. He ignored them and their advice, going through the typical teenager rebellion. His younger sister is a gem in his eye though. He always looks out for her and is there whenever she needs him. The two are very close, the best of friends, and they watch out for each other. He lets no one touch or date her without going through him first. Though his sister doesn’t really like his boyish and yet dangerous attitude towards the guys she is either friends with or dates, she accepts his big brother role. Eventually when Matthew moved away, his relationship with his family became better as he grew up into a man instead of the spoiled boy he used to be. Now they talk on a weekly basis and are very close and proud of Matthew and his decisions in life.
Love Life
While Matthew views himself as stranger to Cupid, the former knows him all too well. Matt’s charisma doesn’t go unnoticed and most female, and some male, patients love to be treated by him. Not only does he carry those boyish charms, but his smile is bright enough to light up the entire room. He had never attached himself to any woman, not even his long time crush, Celine. In his eyes, she was the only one for him, and while he went after her in the wrong ways, she never noticed and it broke his heart. No matter who he was with, his heart was never in it…saved for someone that he knew he would never get.
When he moved from GC to pursue a career and a different life, he met a woman; Jessica. For the first time in his life, Celine became a woman and friend of his past and not someone he dreamt about every night. Jessica was smart, sexy, funny, and had the same desires and dreams that Matthew did; helping people. He instantly fell in love with her, hard and fast, and she did as well. He soon found happiness and the two were soon engaged. Weeks later, both found out that they would be parents. Matthew couldn’t have been anymore happier. He had a great job and schooling; he was engaged to a successful and beautiful woman and they expecting a child.
Like most of the stories that Matthew read at a early age…nothing was strictly black and white. Three months and two days before the wedding, Jessica was involved in a terrible car accident that claimed her life and the life of their unborn child. It was an experience that Matthew, still to this day, had never gotten over. Though he never talked about the accident, it is something that still weighs heavily on his heart and state of mind. Something that he will never fully get over.
With his return to GC, he had come face to face with his long time best friend and crush, Celine. Still being dragged down from his experience away from Gaimen, Matthew is unsure if he is ready to give love another shot. The best way to find out is to dive in with both feet and pray that the water isn’t shallow…
Being a Doctor
There’s nothing more exciting, more challenging, stressful, and upsetting than being a doctor in Gaimen City. You see everything; you take the biggest risks with other’s lives; and you either gain the biggest reward…or the longest death sentence. By now, Matt knows that he hasn’t seen everything yet; especially in Gaimen City. He loves helping people but to this job, he also realizes that in it lies a dark path. When you can’t save someone, you take the brunt of the pain and suffering that the family and friends have to go through. When you can’t save someone, you feel like you failed and you lose your confidence and sense of self. You being to question why you chose the job you did if you couldn’t save one life compared to the hundreds that you’ve seen. Being a doctor for Matthew is one of the most satisfying and self destructive things he has ever done. And for him, it’ll get a lot worse before it gets better in this city.
Illness
Matthew was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart and the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in athletes) when he was fifteen years old. This illness is the reason why Matthew never went pro in basketball and why his sport career suddenly died.
Currently
With the confession of Celine's, now married to her former room mate, Kyle LeDesma, Matthew and Celine find themselves stuck between the past and the present. Celine confessed to him her desire to still have him, sexually and otherwise, thus bringing up his surpressed feelings of her to the surface.
